Driving to Hoquiam

The evening before last I took this photo in our campground near the Elwha River. We’ve been noticing that fall is in the air here, leaves are falling and turning color…..

Since Cape Flattery is the farthest we could be from Fripp Island I was curious….Google Maps has the distance at 3140 miles….but we did a lot of zigging and zagging on our route..

Yesterday we left the Port Angeles area and continued on US 101 east then south. We got a few nice views of the rocky coast line between Ruby Beach and South Beach where US 101 runs along close to the ocean for 15 miles or so……

It was still early in the morning and the air was very cool and full of mist….ahh the sound of surf pounding and the briny smell of the ocean….

We wanted to stop and walk on this beautiful beach but didn’t find a good area to get down there….

Here in a grove of Spruce, some trees had these these giant burls,  several feet in diameter…

This is windswept shoreline and the trees tell the story…

We drove to the Hoquiam River RV park which is very nice…..we were fortunate to get it…seems that RV spots in this area are really tight right now……RV park is beside this pretty river of the same name..
