Hurricane Matthew

We just got back to our house yesterday, after a week, and were able to breathe a sigh of relief….no house damage and no water in the house. Our next door neighbor has a pine tree on his deck and the neighbor next to him has a pine tree on a corner of his roof….we walked around a little and took a short golf cart ride late in the day….the damage is sobering.

The revetment wall at the northeast end of the island was severely damaged…..rocks weighing several hundred pounds and sand now cover Porpoise Drive ….

The 18th hole of the Ocean Point golf course was dramatically damaged….all the soil (mostly sand) ripped off between the green and a retaining wall and blown  over the fairway approaching the green…looks like about 75 to 100 yards of fairway now covered by tons and tons of sand…

We noticed there were hundreds of new shore birds….I guess the hurricane relocated them …many Wood Storks and Egrets…this morning the egrets were lined up on the retaining wall…not enough room to roost in normal roosting places…

Our front yard has three large oaks down…its a wonder none of them hit our house…some one said that there were 2 or 3 tornadoes embedded in the hurricane…could have been …some of the trees look like they were twisted off…

Just got an alert that we are not to use the sewers at all…I guess they are backing up and they have not found all the leaks yet….more later
