End of the Charcoal Era…

For the past couple years I’ve been thinking about getting a propane grill. Simply getting tired of waiting for the charcoal to get going, emptying the ashes and all that stuff. But we have had the same charcoal grill since we lived in Loveland, Ohio. Here is our house in a photo from about that time….flying with my good friend Dana up to our soaring club one beautiful October afternoon in his rental Cessna 170…..

We bought our grill after going to a home show early in 1999. It originally had a small propane tank and igniter system to start the charcoal and I  remember that we paid $500 for it ….it even had white-wall tires….

here we were then….this was almost 20 years ago..

Alas….. the old grill is no longer new and shiny….but note the white wall tires…

Yuk are we still cooking on this thing…..

So, we did it …. we got a nice shiny new Weber…..they do last a long time….off to Grayco and for just a little bit more you can go First Class. They assemble it, deliver it and haul the old grill away….here’s our new two burner Genesis II….

The propane tank hangs on a scale so you can tell when its getting time to refill the tank. Two burners with push button lighting allow nice heat control with perhaps veggies on one side and an entree on the other…..and the little pan underneath catches all the drippings. Simply throw in the trash when drippings accumulate….here was the first meal taking advantage of the two burners

Ready to grill…..drizzled with poppey seed dressing the chicken kabobs cook right in the pan  ……cut up some zucchini, mushrooms and red pepper with some olive oil and  you have a simple healthy meal in just a few minutes….so long charcoal…

and served up….very simple healthy meal in short order

I do have a lot of great memories of all the cookouts we had using the old charcoal grill  but ….I love the convenience of the new propane job….even if no white walls….
