White Mountains-New Hampshire

We’ve been here since Sunday in a campground 5 miles east of the village of Gorham….

Gorham is about 10 miles north of the famed Mt. Washington …..known for the extreme weather conditions at the summit ….we’ve been driving around every day exploring…

These are impressive mountains…..a movie we saw yesterday said they are 400 million years old but, mostly solid granite, they are jagged and there are some very impressive notches to drive through…..

Saw this group of young people heading out on a 5 day trek into the White Mountain ⛰ National Forest 🌳…..

Oh how I wish I could do that…..

We found this pretty place, Echo Lake State Park, a day later…families swimming and picnicking………across the lake two jagged chunks of granite……the one on the far right, although it does not look it, is 700 feet above the valley and is a rock climbing venue for those crazies….

There is a road to the top……here is little Echo Lake below….

When you get up here it really is 700 feet up…….

Yesterday we drove through the Franconia Notch and walked the Flume….

Starts out gently…but very beautiful….

…..gets tighter with more steps…

Walls get close….

Here I thought Ronnie might freeze….holding both railings…..it was more intimidating than it looks…

This was a highlight…..even in late summer the water was roaring

Here the 🌲 trees adapt to the granite…..sending out roots all around the chunks..

Last night about 7 PM a cold front went through…..we had two scorching hot days in the mid 90’s…..today is lovely…..in the 70’s….more later………
