PEI – North Cape Coastal Drive

Yesterday we had a planned tour which was pretty boring except for the outstanding lunch. I had the “potato pie” which was so good that we are thinking it might be on the menu at Christmas….(the restaurant handed out copies of the recipe)……. otherwise a ho hum day…..the big attraction here is the “Ann of Green Gables” house. It turns out that the Japanese learn English in grade  school by reading the book….they  come here by the thousands every summer. Whole bus loads of Japanese were at the site…..

The author grew up and lived near this house. Her grandparents were related to the owners and so the house was like her own…this is the house in the story… is a farmhouse from the 1880’s…

We stopped along the way for some photos at the cliffs looking out over the Gulf of St. Lawrence….

Ronnie got the bus driver aside and asked about driving around the western end of the island and he put us onto this drive so we opted out of another bus tour and drove around the western coastal drive today……this Canada 🇨🇦Park was on the way….this was the last day for lifeguards to be on duty…..they were hunkered down to stay warm…the wind howled all day…

All the beaches are red….this was a beautiful little campground ⛺️….looking out to the north east…..we continued on to the extreme northwestern tip of Prince Edward   Island where there are several windmill farms and a lighthouse….

Thia is the lighthouse at North Cape….

Here is a windmill blade on the ground……this one is 43 meters long ….that’s about 150 feet,,,,,these are the largest and as you go around the west end  to the south the windmill farms go on and on….

The scenery is beautiful…….

We drove south from here along the western end of PEI….stopped for lunch at a little place called Miminegash….just  tiny little Harbor. Then on south to lands end at West Point….another Canada 🇨🇦 park campground and beach 🏖 with another lighthouse…..

Ronnie proclaimed this to be the best shot of the day…the lighthouse at West Point

We drove about 200 miles …but we took all day so it was worth it….tomorrow is our last day of the tour….🚌
